On average, grooming takes about 3 to 4 hours per pet, though this can vary based on the size of your furry friend and the time of your appointment. To ensure your pet’s comfort, we provide breaks between each step of the grooming process. If you prefer a faster experience without wait times, we also offer an express grooming service, which typically takes 1 to 2 hours per pet. Whatever you choose, our priority is your pet’s well-being and a flawless finish.
Yes, we offer grooming services for grooming-tolerant cats. Because every feline has a unique temperament, we recommend reaching out to our salon or requesting a consultation to ensure the best possible experience for your kitty. Our gentle, experienced team is dedicated to providing calm, personalized care to keep your cat looking and feeling wonderful.
Yes, absolutely! Any pictures or details you provide help us capture your vision and ensure your pet’s style is exactly what you’re hoping for. At Zen Pup, we also take detailed grooming notes and store them securely, so every visit builds on your pet’s personalized style and care preferences. Your pet’s comfort & perfect look is our priority.
You’re welcome to wait nearby during your pet’s grooming session; however, please keep in mind that your pet may be less cooperative if they can see you. Our groomers work closely with each pet on a one-to-one basis, relying on their ability to maintain your pet’s attention, give commands, and gently maneuver them throughout the process.
Having the owner nearby - even quietly observing - can distract your pet and cause them to seek reassurance from you instead of the groomer. This can make the grooming more challenging and potentially unsafe, while also extending the time needed for the session.
We’re thrilled that you and your beloved pet enjoyed the grooming experience at Zen Pup! If you’d like to share the love, please consider writing a review or recommending our services to friends and family. Frequently Asked Questions
Every dog is unique, with grooming needs shaped by breed, coat type, and lifestyle. At Zen Pup, we offer maintenance schedules ranging from two to six weeks to keep your pup’s coat in peak health.
Regardless of coat length, every dog deserves attentive, personalized care. For short-haired breeds, we prioritize conditioning treatments following the initial bath to nourish both coat and skin, enhancing a natural, radiant glow. Dogs with thick, curly, or double coats - such as Poodles, Doodles, and Spaniels - benefit from frequent grooming to prevent mats and keep their coats in pristine condition.
To ensure the highest standard of care, we operate by appointment only, thoughtfully scheduling maintenance visits to provide your dog with steady, attentive care in our serene, boutique environment.
Short-haired breeds benefit from regular grooming every 2 to 6 weeks. This schedule allows us to focus on conditioning treatments that nourish both coat and skin, ensuring your dog’s coat remains healthy, smooth, and radiant. Consistent care also maintains comfortable nail length, promotes dental hygiene, and reduces the risk of hot spots, ear infections, and excess shedding - enhancing both your pet’s comfort and your home’s cleanliness.
Regular grooming every 2 to 6 weeks is essential for maintaining your dog's health, comfort, and flawless apparance. Consistent appointments prevent matting, keep the coat clean and nourished, and promote healthy skin. Beyond aesthetics, routine grooming manages nail length, supports dental hygiene, and reduces the risk of ear infections, hot spots, and shedding-while allowing our groomers to build a trusted relationship with your dog.
With a dedicated iPad, each groomer creates a comprehensive pet profile encompassing important details - from your pet’s health and grooming history to owner preferences and product choices such as the best-suited shampoo and conditioners - ensuring a tailored, unparalleled grooming experience.

Health Related
We recommend bringing your puppy in for grooming no earlier than 12 weeks of age, after they have received their first round of vaccinations. The ideal window to introduce your new puppy to grooming is between 12 and 16 weeks old. Puppies older than 4 to 6 months may find it more challenging to acclimate to the grooming process.
Before your puppy’s first grooming appointment, it’s beneficial to familiarize them with handling at home - gently holding their paws, touching their nails, ears, and teeth, or even giving them baths. This helps them feel comfortable during their salon visit.
For their first appointment, we typically start with a bath and a light trim around the eyes and feet if needed. Our groomers work patiently to keep your puppy comfortable while gently introducing them to grooming sounds and handling techniques. Since this is likely their first extended time away from you, the experience is designed to be positive and stress-free.
A full haircut at this stage can sometimes lead to uneven or unsafe results, so we focus on building a foundation of trust and comfort. Early exposure helps them respond positively to grooming throughout their life.
At Zen Pup, we’re dedicated to making grooming a loving and enjoyable experience from the very beginning.
Regular nail care is essential for your pet’s comfort and health. Typically, nails should be trimmed every 3 to 4 weeks, but this can vary depending on your pet’s activity level, breed, and how quickly their nails grow. Keeping nails at an appropriate length helps prevent discomfort, improves mobility, and reduces the risk of injury. Our expert groomers are happy to help maintain your pet’s nails with precision and care during every visit.
Absolutely! We warmly welcome senior dogs and tailor our grooming approach to their unique needs. Our experienced groomers work gently and patiently, prioritizing your pet’s comfort and well-being throughout the session. If your dog has any health concerns or special requirements, please let us know when booking so we can provide the safest, most soothing experience possible. At Zen Pup, every pet - young or wise - is treated with the utmost care.
If you are worried about the health and safety of your pet for grooming, we highly recommend getting them groomed at a Veterinarian Clinic.
The need for a shorter haircut depends on the severity of the matting and your pet’s coat type. When you drop off your dog, our groomer will carefully assess how close the mats are to the skin to determine the best approach.
Please note that Zen Pup Grooming does not offer de-matting services. Knots and mats can be uncomfortable, and while some tangles can be resolved with gentle brushing, severe matting may require a shorter cut to ensure your pet’s comfort and skin health.
Our team will always discuss your options with you to tailor the grooming experience to your pet’s needs, prioritizing their well-being every step of the way.
Anal glands are two small sacs located just below your dog’s anus. Typically, dogs express these glands naturally during bowel movements or sometimes when they’re frightened or stressed. This expression allows them to leave their unique scent behind, marking their territory and communicating with other dogs about their health and hormonal status.
Some dogs, especially smaller breeds, may have difficulty expressing their anal glands on their own, which can lead to impacted or infected glands. Signs of discomfort include scooting on the floor or frequent licking around the anus. If you notice these behaviors, it’s best to consult your veterinarian before requesting anal gland expression during grooming.
At Zen Pup, we can gently express anal glands as part of regular grooming appointments when requested, helping maintain your pet’s comfort and hygiene.
While groomers cannot provide full veterinary flea and tick treatments, we do offer flea treatments to kill any active fleas found on your pet during grooming. If fleas are detected, we will automatically apply a treatment to help eliminate them and wash away flea dirt and eggs.
However, fleas often live not just on your pet but also in their bedding, yard, and home environment. For thorough flea and tick control, we strongly recommend using a veterinarian-prescribed preventative and treating your home and pet’s belongings.
Yes, your pet does not need to be spayed or neutered to receive grooming services. All pets are kept separated throughout the entire grooming process to ensure safety and comfort.
At Zen Pup, we welcome all pets regardless of their spay or neuter status. If your dog has any special needs or behaviors related to this, please let us know when booking so we can tailor our care to provide the best, most comfortable experience possible.
If fleas are found on your dog during their grooming appointment, we will promptly provide a flea treatment to eliminate the active fleas and cleanse the coat of flea dirt and eggs. This treatment costs an additional $10. Please note, this treatment only addresses fleas present at the time of grooming and does not prevent future infestations once your pet leaves the salon.
Because fleas often live in your pet’s environment - such as bedding, yard, and home - it’s essential to treat those areas as well and use a veterinarian-recommended flea and tick preventative to fully resolve the issue. If we discover fleas on your pet, we will notify you immediately and recommend treating your home and belongings alongside your pet.
